The School is the family home of the Northbourne family and is at the heart of the Northbourne estate. It was started by The Lady Northbourne's father-in-law, the 4th Lord Northbourne.
When the lease ran out, her husband decided to renew and to add a new dimension to the school. Because the Lady Northbourne is French, and because of the proximity to France, they decided to offer a limited number of places to French children wishing to learn how to speak English. This experiment has been a great success and the school is now welcoming the children of the original foreign pupils!
The Lady Northbourne chaired the board of governors for many years and remains a great supporter of the school and all it stands for.
