Why families choose Northbourne Park
Northbourne Park is a small day and boarding school for children aged 2 to 14, in the Kent countryside near Deal. We support families whatever pathway they choose for their child: grammar school entry at 11, senior school entry at 13, or now Year 9, giving families an additional option as the senior school landscape changes. Families choose us because their child is known individually, plays sport every week regardless of natural ability, and spends real time outdoors as part of normal school life.

Classes are small enough that staff know every child, not only their own class.
Parents have direct access to teachers and regular, clear communication about progress.

Outdoor education is timetabled, not occasional.
We are intentional about limiting screen time and connecting children with the outdoors. Forest School runs from Nursery through Prep, in partnership with neighbouring Betteshanger Park, and children climb trees, build shelters and cook on open fires as a regular part of school life. The Saturday Programme for Year 4 and above is built around outdoor skills and teamwork.

Language teaching begins at two, not eleven.
Children start learning French in Squirrels Nursery. From Year 3 they have two hours of French a week, and from Year 5, two hours of Spanish. Teaching is led by native or bilingual speakers, with daily contact with our bilingual Section Française pupils.

Every child plays sport, every week.
PE and Games are taught by specialist coaches from Reception, increasing to five hours a week from Year 3. Children compete in weekly fixtures in a variety of sports, including football, netball, rugby, and cricket.

Care runs from 8.00am to 6.00pm for Nursery to Year 2, and 7.30am to 7.30pm for Year 3 and above, including breakfast and supper, with a free homework club every day until 5.30pm.
Full, weekly and flexible boarding from Year 3 allows a single overnight stay as readily as a longer one.

An independent education here is more affordable than many families expect.
We accept 15 and 30-hour Early Years funding, including in Reception. Sibling and Armed Forces discounts are available, alongside means-tested bursaries and scholarships from Year 3 for academic, creative or sporting ability. Monthly payment plans are also available. Our focus is breadth, character and a wider definition of achievement, alongside genuine support for whichever secondary school route a family chooses. In 2025, 100% of our Reception children met all Early Years Goals, and 80% of our Year 6 leavers passed the Kent Test.
