Years7,8,6eme and 5eme braved the still chilly April night last weekend to sleep out under the stars and sharpen up their outdoor skills. Over the past months the children have been creating their own shelters in groups of 3 or 4 during our outdoor education sessions and last weekend they were put to the test. Armed with warm clothes, torches and sleeping bags the students headed over the to leadership village later on Saturday afternoon.
They had to finish off their shelters and make them waterproof - lucky as it did rain during the evening. They were then taught how to skin and gut pheasant and rabbits which they had to cook over the camp fire during the evening (in addition to burgers & sausages!).
Entertainment was homemade - each group had to perform a song, mime and dance. Peace descended on the camp around midnight and some sleep was enjoyed, we understand!
Daybreak came too quickly but the children made their own breakfast of bacon baps over the camp fire before tidying up and heading back into school for a well deserved rest! It was a great experience that they all enjoyed and they are all looking forward to the expeditions to France and Spain later this summer for more practice.
