Class 2 visited The White Mill Rural Heritage Centre in
Sandwich
, in support of their science topics this term of 'food' and 'forces'.
The children looked around the 18th century windmill and were shown how it was used to grind wheat, barley and oats in the traditional way.
They visited the granary and miller’s cottage with exhibits of farming tools, kitchen and laundry equipment, and the wheelwright’s and blacksmith’s workshops.
One of the highlights of the visit was doing the laundry, Victorian style!
Back at school the children made their own bread with flour from the mill, and churned their own butter.
