Severe Weather Procedure.

It is the policy of Northbourne Park School to remain open unless we are forced to close because there is a risk to the health and safety of staff and students. We must be particularly vigilant with the icy conditions on our local lanes and driveways to the Prep and Pre-Prep Schools.

If we are closed, there will be announcements made on local radio stations, Radio Kent, Heart FM and KMFM as well as announcements on the Television. Any closure details will be posted on our website and we will post a message on the main school telephone number.

Should the weather worsen during a school day, the school will contact parents to make arrangements for pupils to leave school at an earlier time and our website will be updated to reflect this.

Children who are unable to be collected will be cared for at school.

OPTION B.

Normal School Timetable. Normal Buses.

Late service to 5pm.

Northbourne Park School will open for a normal School day today for all of those pupils who are able to make it in. All pupils should dress warmly for their journeys in and out of school.

The Pre-Prep.
Pupils should wear their uniform, warm coats, Wellington boots and have their School shoes in a bag.

Please deliver Pre-Prep children to staff located at the bottom of the Old Rectory drive at the normal drop-off times.

Staff will accompany pupils up to the Old Rectory. Please respect their safety by not driving up the Old Rectory drive.

Pre-Prep pupils will be brought down to the bottom of the drive at 4pm for collection by parents.

We will run the Late Service for those parents who require it until 5pm.

OPTION C.

Short School Timetable. Normal Buses.

Pre-Prep snow drop-off.

Late service to 5pm.

Northbourne Park School will open for a shortened School day today for all of those pupils who are able to make it in. All pupils should dress warmly for their journeys in and out of school.

The buses will attempt to run as normal a service as possible and the drivers will be in contact with you to communicate further.

Please note that the timings for the beginning and end of the day have been altered to allow day pupils to be dropped off and picked up more safely in daylight hours.

Pre-Prep children should arrive at the Prep School Sports Hall no later than 8.30am and dressed for the short walk to the Old Rectory across the fields. This avoids parents using the Old Rectory Drive which continues to be hazardous. Staff will however be in the Old Rectory from 8.15am for those very local children who can walk into school.

The Prep School car park also remains very snow-bound so please can all parents drop off their children quickly with the staff on duty, so as to leave the car park free for other incoming traffic?

We hope that this shorter day will allow us to resume as normal a timetable as possible. The staff will make every effort to get into school and I hope that the earlier finish will allow all day pupils, their families and non-resident staff to return home in safety!

This message will be updated at 6.30am tomorrow morning once we have assessed the weather conditions.

OPTION D.

Northbourne Park School will be/remain closed today due to the adverse weather conditions.

It is the policy of the School to remain open unless we are forced to close because there is a significant risk to the health and safety of staff, pupils and their parents; icy conditions, particularly on our local lanes and driveways to the Prep and Pre-Prep Schools pose acute hazards.

Any urgent email or telephone messages will continue to be picked up by the School Office.

This message will be updated at 6.30am tomorrow morning once we have assessed the weather conditions.
